Brisbane star Jamayne Isaako has been granted a release from his contract but won’t be joining Parramatta after a late “curve ball”.

“The Broncos have granted Jamayne Isaako an immediate release from his contract with the club,” the statement read.

“The Broncos were happy to facilitate the request and wish Jamayne and his young family all the best in the future, both on and off the field.”

Isaako was selected at fullback in the season-opener against South Sydney did not play against the Bulldogs.

“Jamayne is experienced at NRL level and has played on the international stage,” Holbrook said.

“He adds great depth to our outside backs and provides us with coverage across both the fullback and wing positions.

“We’ve got strong competition across a number of positions and adding Jamayne gives us another exciting option to choose from in our backline.

“We had kept a spot on our roster open and we’re thrilled that we are now able to add Jamayne to our team.

“With a number of talented young backline players on our roster, Jamayne will no doubt be able to help with their development during his time with the Titans.”metasports

There was high drama on Tuesday when the Broncos announced Isaako had been granted a release.

Reports immediately swirled that Isaako had taken up a deal with the Eels, however, the Titans came from nowhere to snatch the 25-year-old away from their clutches.

Triple M reporter Ben Dobbin posted on Twitter there was “drama” as the Titans and Eels both competed for Isaako’s signature.

Bombers midfielder Kyle Langford set to miss months of matches after going down with a hamstring injury at the weekend

Essendon head of football Josh Mahoney said all suitable rehabilitation options were being considered for Langford, including surgery.

“Unfortunately for Kyle, the strain is on the same side as his previous injury and therefore we will take a conservative approach with his rehabilitation,” Mahoney said.

“Kyle is likely to be sidelined for approximately eight to 10 weeks but we will consult with a surgeon in the coming week to assess all options for recovery.

“We’re disappointed for Kyle who had completed a strong pre-season but we look forward to welcoming him back to the fold mid-season.”

Essendon midfielder Kyle Langford faces up to 10 weeks on the sidelines recovering from his hamstring setback in the Bombers’ nightmare round 1 defeat to Geelong.

The 25-year-old was due to play his 100th game this weekend but will instead watch from the sidelines as Essendon tries to avoid a second-straight season defeat to Brisbane on Saturday.

The hamstring strain, which occurred in the opening minutes of the Bombers’ 66-point loss to the Cats, is to the same leg that cost him a finals spot last year.metasports

The Aussies opted to rest teenage fast bowler Darcie Brown for the game with Lanning suggesting they don’t want to overwork the 19-year-old with the finals still to come.

“Darcie is an important player for us but we need to take care of her and make sure she‘s available for as many games as possible,” Lanning said.

Australia is the only unbeaten team in the World Cup and has only lost one of 26 matches since October 2017.

Already averaging over 50 in one-day cricket, Lanning reached triple-figures in just 92 balls, with 13 fours and a six to demoralise the opposition who had managed to remove two of Australia’s powerful top-order cheaply.

But with superstar all-rounder Perry unable to come in to bat until number seven, Tahlia McGrath put on a quickfire 93-run partnership with Lanning to put victory in sight.

Perry stayed in the sheds as first Gardner then Annabel Sutherland came out to join Lanning as they got their team home and ended South African’s unbeaten run at the World Cup.

Six dropped five catches, including Lanning twice, the first time when she was on 115 and Australia still needed 65 to win, cost the South African’s dearly.

“We tried to get through without her today. Hopefully it’s not serious and she’ll be back for the next game.

The century from Lanning, who now averages nearly 70 in run-chases, came after she made 97 as Australia chased down 277 to beat India on Saturday in Auckland and as Australia again stamped it’s World Cup authority with just one pool game, against Bangladesh on Friday, to come before the semi-finals.metasports

“It’s been nice to contribute the last two games,” Lanning said in her understated fashion.
